Layers are vital poultry in China. In 2025, the national inventory of layers reached 1.22 billion, with annual per-capita egg consumption of 22 kg, ranking 9th globally.
China boasts the world’s largest layer inventory. While being a major layer-raising country, it is not yet a powerhouse in this sector. In particular, layer feed quality varies greatly, and processing technologies and equipment for layer feed remain relatively underdeveloped.
The primary pain point for layer feed lies in high fine-particle content. Especially for ground corn, the fine-particle fraction commonly hits 18-25% (calculated as the proportion of material passing through an 18-mesh sieve). The second issue is poor particle-size uniformity of ground corn, which triggers the following problems:
Residual feed left in feeding troughs, prone to spoilage in summer;
Feed waste and dust generated during production, conveying and feeding;
Higher risk of respiratory diseases in laying hens;
High fine-particle content in corn contributes to fatty liver syndrome in layers;
Frequent blockages in feeding lines;
Segregation between coarse particles and fine powder within feed.

SDFP Series Layer Feed Shredder
Based on extensive market research and grinding-technology studies, Jiangsu FAST has purpose-built the SDFP Series Layer Feed Shredder. Its working principle maximizes shearing force. Fixed hammers rotate at low speed to shear corn, which is then discharged through the sieve quickly. Corn undergoes merely 1-2 shearing cycles, so over-grinding is minimized, delivering low fine-particle content and high finished-product yield.

1. Staggered material-distribution mechanism for uniform feeding
The feeder adopts full-length impeller feeding with frequency-conversion control for consistent material delivery. The staggered material-distribution mechanism guarantees identical feed intake and load for both rotors.
2. Full-opening movable gravity gate: spacious access for sieve-plate replacement and simplified maintenance.
3. Quick-plug hammers for fast replacement
Hammers are rigidly connected to the main shaft via hammer supports and secured with quick-plug fittings for convenient and rapid service and replacement.
4. Extended hammer service life
Material processing relies mainly on shearing force between hammers and corn, lowering wear while boosting efficiency. One set of hammers can grind 70,000 tons of corn (7 mm sieve aperture).
Corn enters the grinding chamber tangentially at low speed via the impeller feeder. Sheared by hammers, material passes through the sieve to produce ground feed with low fine-particle content and uniform particle-size distribution.

6. Ground corn finished product
